Kate Middletonfaced the rain in Blackpool – and made sure the crowds gathered in the wet weather could catch a glimpse!

Although the couple popped open umbrellas when they arrived to Blackpool Tower – where they joined a roundtable briefing about the town’s recent history and the investment underway to rejuvenate it – Kate declined using an umbrella during the crowd meet-and-greet to ensure that even those toward the back of the group would be able to see her.

The thoughtful move is similar toQueen Elizabeth, who deliberately has a very colorful wardrobe so her royal fans can easily spot her.

In the documentaryThe Queen at 90, the monarch’s daughter-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, said: “She needs to stand out for people to be able to say, ‘I saw the Queen.’ Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.”

Kate, 37, has alsoadapted this trick, opting for a rainbow wardrobe.

Despite the rain, Kate – bundled up in a Sportmax green coat over a green printed shirt dress from Michael Kors and with her hair pulled back in a ponytail – was all smiles as she chatted with well-wishers. She even got a special welcome: as she passed, a young child yelled, “Hello, Princess!”

The royal mom of three – Prince George, 5,Princess Charlotte, 3, andPrince Louis, 10 months – even walked about with some gifts for her little ones.

“I gave her the t shirts and two mugs and told her that we still have the picture of William and Harry wearing our t-shirts in our office,” says Mandy Tythe-McCallum from Visit Blackpool. “She said she would tell William and she said thanks and that she’s pass them along. She was lovely.”

Kate even revealed that she would love to bring her children to the “amazing” town.
