Just what exactly is this strange deep sea creature ? Before release it back into the ocean , Facebook userJr Saimuploaded this video recording . Can you tell what it is ?
Turns out its a really grownup Basket star , a member of a group of echinoderms call Brittle stars .
Do n’t be confused though . Brittle stars , which are sometimes also called Serpent stars , are n’t really the same as the sea star you ’re probably more conversant with . But they are related . Most of the starfish you ’ve seen in aquarium touch - tanks are members of the taxonomic classAsteroidea , but Brittle stars – there are over 2000 metal money of them – are called Ophiuroidea .

For context , human race are member of the form that let in all mammals : dogs , horse cavalry , moo-cow , tigers , squirrels , bats , and all the rest . That ’s how broad these sorting are . Brittle stars may calculate like Sea principal , but they ’ve been evolving individually for more than 500 million years . The last usual ancestor you portion out with a toad was n’t born for another 150 million years after that !
