Former NFL MVPCam Newtonwas seemingly involved in a fight at a youth football game in Atlanta over the weekend. We Ball Sports, the apparel company and host of the event, called the incident an “unfortunate situation.”

The Athleticreportedthat the two men seen in the video fighting with Newton were both coaches for the TopShelf Performance football program, which helps with “developing topshelf athletes from Pewee Football to the NFL,” according to its website.

The outlet reported the two men also formerly coached with Newton, who last played in the NFL in 2021 for the Carolina Panthers. The fight came after a “heated game” between two under-18 teams, according to The Athletic.

“Just an unfortunate situation,” Nehemiah Mitchell, the co-founder of We Ball Sports, told the outlet.

“We are deeply concerned about the recent incident involving Cam Newton, and our thoughts are with all parties affected,” TopShelf Performance trainers Stephon and TJ Brown also said in a joint statement to The Athletic. “Violence has no place in our community, and we strongly condemn any form of aggression.”

Newton has not yet addressed the incident publicly. A message to Newton’s representation was not immediately returned Monday.

The Atlanta native won the Heisman Trophy in his senior year at Auburn University. He would go on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and helped the Panthers reach the Super Bowl in 2015, losing to the New England Patriots.
