Drew also detailed how he felt about his brother popping the question, sharing that he and his wifeLinda Phanhad been “counting down the days” until Jonathan got around to asking Deschanel, 43, to wed.
As wedding planning begins, he said, however, that he’s not sure if he’ll be standing next to his brother at the altar.
“We’ll see, it’s up to him,” Drew teased about the possibility of being the best man at the nuptials. “I am the kind of guy that gives no pressure. If he wants to elope and do his own thing, go for it. Whatever they want, I’m good with.”
At the gala Drew provided the opening remarks, while Soleil Moon Frye hit the stage during the live appeal with the organization’s CEO and founder Georgie Smith to help raise more than $1 million.
“Sense of Home is such an amazing organization because they’re giving people that feeling of safety and security at home. If you feel whole at home, it really affects every aspect of your life,” said Drew. Added Linda: “Everyone deserves a home, and we’ve been very lucky to have what we have. We just want to pay it forward.”

Jonathan and Deschanelopened up about their dreamy August engagement, which took place at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, in a cover story with PEOPLE.
The exciting moment began with a guitarist Jonathan had hired to play Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” — a move that prompted confusion from theNew Girlactress.
“So when that started happening, Zooey, all of a sudden … You saw this, ‘What’s happening?’ " Scott recalled.
“Somebody magically took the kids over on the other side where the band was, and I was like, ‘Something’s happening,’ " she told PEOPLE, adding that she wasn’t sure what was going on until her kids walked back out with “a banner that said, ‘Zooey, will you marry me?’ ”

Despite playing a role in the engagement, Deschanel said her kids were confused. Her daughter read the sign and asked if the two had just gotten married on the spot.
“And we’re like, ‘Well, no, not yet, but we got engaged.’ And she’s like, ‘Does that mean I get to be a flower girl?’ And we’re like, ‘Yes. Yes you can,’ " the star said. “So it was really sweet to have them there too.”
Deschanel added of the proposal, “It was so special.”
