When Indigo, a 6-month-oldGreat Pyrenees,is thirsty, she doesn’t just bark. She “pretends to die of dehydration,” according to her owner.

Rhiannon Kostecki, who adopted Indigo in June, recently shared a hilarious TikTok video of the dramatic dog lying on the floor with her face in an empty water bowl and her tongue hanging out.

Kostecki tells PEOPLE Indigo began exhibiting the high-maintenance behavior “right away” when she came to live with her.

Indigo is “extremely performative,” she says. “She’s super independent and has all these really quirky behaviors. She’s super, super intelligent, and she gets really, really excited. But boy, she gets the point across. She rears her heart on her sleeve.”

Kostecki, who lives on a farm in Duncan, British Columbia, says there are water bowls all over the property, and the land has a massive pond. But Indigo is partial to a small glass bowl, and she’s “taken it over as hers.”

“She’ll kind of slide it around the house and ask for water to be put in that bowl for her, despite receptacles everywhere,” she says.

Indigo has a similar habit with her food bowls.

“If she finishes her bowl of food and she’d like more, she’ll bang the walls with it, she’ll throw it across the room,” Kostecki says. “She’ll wear it on her head. She’ll do anything to get your attention.”

Indigo’s “performance art” extends beyond her eating and drinking rituals, Kostecki says.

“She gets super, super dirty in the pond, and then she parades around the mud to the neighbors,” she says. “She thinks that she’s really, really, really proud of her muddy coat. And then, of course, she has to have a bath and be groomed because those coats are ridiculous to maintain.”

While some were concerned Indigo’s thirst was a sign of neglect, Kostecki says that’s not the case at all.

“She’s just a drama queen,” says Kostecki, who has worked as a veterinary technician for the past 15 years.

“I have spent so much time educating others on the health and care and welfare of animals,” she says. “I’m really active in animal rescues. So there definitely isn’t any deprivation occurring.”

Kostecki adds she has “too many” animals on her eight-acre farm, explaining, “You can’t work in veterinary medicine and not collect.”

Right now, she has three dogs (in addition to Indigo, Kostecki adopted her brother, Krados, and a 12-year-old German Shepherd named Odin), five cats, a rabbit, two goats, and a sheep.

Kostecki says Indigo’s brother is “kind of codependent” and has “a little bit of separation anxiety if he can’t see her.”

“She kind of leads the charge and she’ll run around super confident, greeting all the animals,” she says. “She’s extremely protective of the animals on the property.”
