Working for the US Department of Homeland Security can be stressful . But no matter how difficult your business is , looking at porn is ordinarily frowned upon during body of work hours . So when a US borderline patrol agent was recently busted for see porn at study , he got into trouble . But he had an interesting defense . He allege at least some of the blame should be on the internet filter software program , which should have saved him from himself .
I recently filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Department of Homeland Security regarding four specific investigative case that were only identified as “ computer abuse . ” I was hoping to uncover some beguiling story of espionage and double agents getting caught in the routine of chop some first-rate mystic file . Instead , all I ’ve gotten back so far is smut .
I have n’t been able to find any dependable numbers , but I ’m going to approximate that find out porn at body of work is something that almost every office has to address with . Most people detest their jobs , and erotica is fun . So it ’s really no surprisal that a border patrol agent was bust . What ’s shocking , and honestly amusing , is his defense mechanism .

According to the written report obtained by Gizmodo , this special sheath , where public figure have been couch to protect the privateness of the agentive role , involves thousands of attempt to access pornography on administration computers in 2015 .
The government pronounce the unidentified agentive role tried to access erotica 644 metre in just a two - day yoke in July of 2015 . The DHS net software filters denied him access 467 time during those two days . Some of the porn was accessed simply because it was host on situation that were n’t recognized as exclusively for porno , like Flickr and Tumblr .
The Department of Homeland Security ’s Office of Inspector General take on the case and verified through video surveillance footage that it was indeed the unnamed agentive role who had been accessing porn , let in child pornography ( though he said that was unplanned ) and beastiality ( which was uniform with “ multiple hunt queries ” ) . It ’s not clear if the video surveillance captured him , um , doing what people ordinarily do when they look at images that sexually arouse them .

But again , what I found so interesting about this case was the broker ’s defense . He said that he knew he should n’t have been accessing erotica at work , but that part of the blame was really with the Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) office for not hold “ adequate web filters . ”
If you ’ve been looking at porn during work hours for months on end , it ’s pretty ballsy to exact that the WWW filters should ’ve prevented you from view it .
And it was n’t just once . This guy had multiple meetings with his boss where he claimed that the body of work cyberspace filters should have been “ more robust , ” as the government put it .

[ Name redacted ] opined that the CBP IT filter should have been more robust , to preclude him from get at any of the site , and that because he access some of the sites , he retrieve that CBP bore some responsibility for not end him entirely .
The dependable part ? Apparently the guy rope learned that the best way to get around the filter was to seek using Bing or else of Google .
[ Name redacted ] stated that he was able to get at more pornographic content by use the Bing search engine , than when he utilize others such as Google .

So there you go . If you want to get around your employer ’s porn filters , remember to always adjudicate Bing first .
It ’s not clear-cut what the effect were for this particular broker , but looking at the rest of the file , this cat was clearly contend with some personal demons and acting recklessly . And if he was fired from the Department of Homeland Security , hopefully his next employer blocks access to Bing .
