So that ’s how we end up with the design of cyber Salander .
Why did you determine to go with the oozing bleak gob feel ?
Everything was supposed to be a feverishness dreaming of Salander ’s . David require this to be her personal nightmare , flashbacking through all these here and now . too soon on , we knew it was supposed to feel like a incubus . When we originally start up out he need to find some form of determine creative pulsar that we could head towards — like for Alien , it was [ H.R. ] Giger ’s work . It was the aesthetic that guide that whole moving picture .
We looked at a bunch of o.k. art , but nothing really fine-tune . But there was this artist who would paint himself black and stand in the midsection of a gallery , David really responded to that . And it work with the dream sequence as well . So we gravitated to that . And , for whatever cause , a lot of the vignettes I wrote had liquidness in them . Which was a boastful part of the story , the drowning , the river that separate the island . And David say let ’s just put liquid in all of them and it will be this primordial dream ooze that ’s a part of every sketch . It tie everything together other than the blackness on black . It became a goal betimes on and I rewrite all of them with some variety of gooey component that would merge them . Really , if you [ freeze frame ] every shot in there , you ’ll find that about everyone liquid somewhere .
What reference or imagery from the book are hide in this title sequence ?
If you have n’t read the book , you may not have it off that the wasp digging itself out of the eye is the tattoo on her neck . By the agency we designed the Phoenix tattoo and the Dragon Tattoo , that were tattoo on her David asked us to do that early on . So there ’s the Phoenix tattoo , which is the Phoenix in the slice . And then the Dragon manifestly , that we used in a couple of places .
I think the references to the flowers … again they start out with an melodic theme . For illustration , we want to represent the cycle of life and death that these blossom represented . If you seem at Keith Richard ’s hands , from the Rolling Stones , they ’re these croak , rheumy , it looks like hoi polloi beat his hands with clubs . It ’s amazing there ’s so much theatrical role in his hands . If you look at the bridge player on her case they ’re these knotty and very textured .
