The artist Doug Aitkin built his Venice , California , menage as a shrine to what he calls“Acid Modernism,”a warm and constitutive space that is also “ perceptual and hallucinatory . ” Its rooms boast high - concept design incorporated in livable , functional way .
Maybe the coolest thing about Acid House is that Aitkin embedded nine geological mike into its groundwork ; all he needs to do is turn up the volume , to discover the wane and flow of the tide and shifting tectonic plate through speakers he ’s installed throughout the house .

In the “ transonic room , ” a mesa Aitkin designed can be played like a marimba .
