Handling the Undead is a beautifully - written , sad , and occasionally quite creepy-crawly novel about departure and the very human inability to sell with it , which utilises the zombie trope in fresh and fascinating ways . The walking dead of Sweden are not the ravenous physique - eaters of Romero ’s creation ( at least , not precisely ) , but ordinary bushed folk who rise , and take the air , and attempt to return to those they left behind ( thereby having more in plebeian with the zombie from the 2004 French movie , Les Revenants ) .
