If you matte The Walking Dead had been spin its gore - cover wheel for the last several seasons , well , last dark ’s sequence introduced something that is really new . It ’s arguably the most of import moment since Negan and the Saviors swaggered onto the tantrum , if not before . But since this is The Walking Dead , I have to marvel : Will it actually change anything ?
To be mediocre , the “ miracle , ” as I call it , was only a small part of “ The Key , ” getting revealed over a pretty small amount of screentime . Much of the episode was devoted to rehash many , many things we ’ve seen before , and multiple times . A abbreviated list :
• Rick greatly queer himself and being needlessly willing to die for vote down Negan , which he all fails to do .
• Negan making yet another fling to forgive Rick if he basically stops crusade , despite the fact Rick and his masses have root for so much cocksucker on the Saviors that Negan is genuinely looking weakly at this point .
• Maggie treating a mathematical group of outsiders ill for the benefit of Hilltop , only to relent and be a midway enough person in the last five minutes of the sequence .
• Simon complaining about Negan ’s pattern and looking for a way to murder a bunch of people which , look at it strictly through a cost - welfare analysis , is almost certainly the salutary track of action for Savior at this point .
But even these plot line had a few new tricks in them . While searching for Negan after Rick knocks his railroad car out of the van ( which was heading to Hilltop to found bucket of zombi guts at them ) a half - nautical mile through an abandoned township , Simon talks Dwight into assuming / hoping Negan is stagnant , partially because Negan is an bastard , but mostly because his repeat forgiveness of Rick and the others ’ various attack to shoot down them will , uh , believably get the Saviors killed .

That the danger of being attack and hold their good steal caused Rick and the others to round that Outpost , setting off all the war ? Or is The Walking Dead that unmindful ? I think it has to be latter because the “ good guys ” have constantly thought about doing or actually doing the same things as the “ scoundrel , ” while never once acknowledging that they ’re stepping over the same lines that their opponent have cross . I ’m not even bemoaning that this happens any longer because it ’s clear part and bundle of the show ; we have chosen our group , and everyone else in the serial publication can in effect go to hell . The job is that the show never , ever point we should question the morality of their action at law because they ’re the protagonists , and the result is we ’re order that slay a bunch of people who did n’t know they existed in exchange for their food for thought was unquestionably a good call .

Given how the show almost urgently keep its characters from growing — or readjust them almost at once whenever they manage it — it ’s genuinely hard for me to opine that there is a really better time to come in store for Hilltop and its denizen . And I do n’t just intend because Simon is currently head there , settle to defeat them all .

• speak of , I ’m not sure if it was true in the regular programme , but in the screener AMC gave out , this full scene was literally almost totally peddle bleak . Although my eyesight is n’t doing particularly well these days , so it may have been just me .
• At some point , Negan pass out while oppose the several dozen zombies Rick lets into the cellar in promise of killing Negan at all costs , and wake up in the passenger fanny in a machine with Jadis hold a gun on him . Assuming Jadis does n’t immediately capitulate and agree to partner / work for him again , given that she does n’t know her people were n’t all murdered on his orders , this should actually be interesting .
• Rick also set Negan ’s at-bat Lucille on fire and beat some zombies with it which place them on fire , and it just felt for all the populace like Rick had snaffle a video game power - up . Given that this was fundamentally the Fire Flower andhe grabbed the Invincibility Star in season five , I have high hopes we ’ll be ascertain him in the Tanooki Suit soon .
